New Delhi: The Central Government has amended the regulations governing the registration of foreign nationals residing in India. Under the revised provisions issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, foreign citizens will now be allowed to complete their registration at any time during their stay in the country, without having to wait for 180 days of residence.

Previously, foreign nationals were required to register within 14 days after completing 180 days of continuous stay in India. The updated framework provides greater flexibility by enabling registration during any stage of their permitted stay.

The revised rules also introduce an online appeal mechanism. Individuals affected by any order will now be able to submit an appeal digitally before the Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration within 30 days. The appeal will be examined through the prescribed process, and a decision will be taken after due consideration.

The government has further stated that efforts will be made to resolve such cases within 60 days. Registration applications submitted after the prescribed timeline will be accepted only under exceptional circumstances and subject to the relevant authorities’ approval.
