The Calcutta High Court has strongly reprimanded the West Bengal government over the increasing incidents of eggs and other objects being thrown at leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The court observed that ensuring the safety of every accused individual or person in custody is a constitutional responsibility of the state. It further emphasized that no person’s fundamental rights can be violated until guilt is established through due legal process. The High Court has directed the state government to formulate comprehensive guidelines for safeguarding suspects and prisoners and to submit a detailed report outlining the measures taken in response to such incidents so far.
