Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, will participate in the foundation stone ceremony of the Zojila Tunnel Project on June 9. This ambitious infrastructure initiative, which will strengthen connectivity between Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, is regarded as one of India’s most significant transportation projects.

The tunnel, spanning approximately 13.15 kilometers, will significantly improve travel along the Srinagar–Leh highway. Once completed, it is expected to reduce a journey that currently takes several hours to just around 15 minutes, making transportation faster and more convenient throughout the year.

Being developed at an estimated cost of ₹6,800 crore, the project will provide all-weather connectivity to the region. It is expected to boost tourism, improve the movement of goods and essential supplies, and enhance access to remote areas. The tunnel will also strengthen logistical support and mobility for security forces deployed in border regions, contributing to both economic growth and strategic development in Ladakh and surrounding areas.
