New Delhi : At least 35 ravens have died in Delhi in the last few days amid the risk of bird flu in the country and their samples have been sent to laboratories for examination. Earlier, an animal husbandry department official said that in the last three to four days, about 50 birds, mostly crows, have died in three areas of Delhi. Seventeen crows were found dead in the park and four specimens were collected. The remaining dead birds were buried deep inside the ground. Two crows were found dead at DDA Park, Dwarka and a specimen was collected from there. The collected specimens were sent to the National High Security Animal Disease Institute, ICAR, Bhopal on Saturday. Sixteen crows were found dead at DDA Park in Hastasal village in West District and four samples collected there were sent to Northern Regional Diagnostic Laboratory, Jalandhar. The Center had said that bird flu cases are coming from 12 places in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Kerala, while Haryana is also on high alert after the unusual death of large number of chickens in the poultry form of Panchkula.
Deputy Chief Minister Sisodia had said that there is no case of bird flu in the city yet and officials have been asked to keep an eye on poultry birds coming from neighboring states to prevent the spread of infection. Officials said that 11 rapid response teams have been formed to keep an eye on potential hot spots in Delhi. Sisodia has asked to keep an eye on poultry markets, reservoirs, bird houses and other possible places. These include Ghazipur Fish and Fowl Market, Shakti Sthal Lake, Sanjay Lake, Bhalswa Lake, Delhi Zoo and small ponds built in the DDA parks.
