New Delhi. The Congress, after a new round of negotiations between the farmers’ organizations and the government, said that the withdrawal of the three central agricultural laws is the solution to this issue as there is no other solution. The party also launched a social media campaign called ‘Bharat Kisan for Kisan’ in support of farmers agitating against the three central agricultural laws, under which senior leaders of the party appealed to the people to raise their voice in favor of the farmer movement. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi accused the government that giving date to date is his strategy. He tweeted that intent is not clear, whose strategy is to give a date On the other hand, those Congress MPs from Punjab met party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who has been sitting on a sit-in protest under open fire at Jantar Mantar for the last one month in protest against the central agricultural laws and in support of the protesting farmers. Gurjit Singh Aujla, Ravneet Bittu, Jasbir Gill and many other MPs met Priyanka at 12, Tughlaq Lane, residence of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi. After this meeting, Priyanka said in a Facebook post, the eighth round of talks between the farmers and the government is over. The farmers were hopeful that the BJP government would give some respect to the farmers according to their statement, but the opposite happened.
The negotiating minister arrived late in the meeting and kept talking about not withdrawing the bill. The farmers are angry with the government’s stand. He also said that we will not back down at all. We are always with the farmers. The solution is to have the laws withdrawn. There is no other solution. Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram accused the government of being stubborn and questioned whether it was following a strategy to exhaust the farmers? He tweeted that if the government has nothing to give, why has it asked for another meeting with the farmers organizations? Is this a strategy to weaken the protesters by asking them to stay in the cold for another week?
Significantly, the eighth round of talks between the government and representatives of farmer organizations on three agricultural laws was concluded on Friday. According to sources, the next meeting can be held on January 15. Adamant on their demand for repeal of the three agricultural laws, the peasant leaders told the government bluntly that their return home would be done only if it would withdraw these laws. The government rejected the demand for complete repeal of the laws and insisted on limiting the discussion to its points. Farmers’ organizations demand that all three agricultural laws be withdrawn and the minimum support price (MSP) be given a legal guarantee. Thousands of farmers have been protesting near Delhi for the last 40 days for their demands. The government says that these laws are a step of major reform in the agricultural sector and through these, farming will eliminate the role of middlemen and farmers can sell their produce anywhere in the country.
