Votes are cast with this special pen When the Vice President is elected in India, a special pen is used to cast the vote, with which MPs vote for the candidate of their choice. The pen used in this election is also a topic of discussion because it is not an ordinary pen, but a special purple pen given by the Election Commission. If someone uses a pen of another colour on his own, then his vote can be cancelled. This ensures that there is no fraud of any kind. By doing this the election remains fair and secret. How are the votes counted for the Vice Presidential election? After the voting for the Vice Presidential election is completed, slips are taken out from the ballot paper and they are separated according to priority. Candidates coming below this are excluded from the counting. After winning, the Vice President takes oath.
