Two people lost their lives after a landslide triggered by continuous heavy rainfall in Kerala’s Wayanad district, while several workers were trapped beneath the debris. The incident occurred near an under-construction road project, where rescue teams, firefighters, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are carrying out intensive search and relief operations.
Authorities fear that some individuals may still be buried under the rubble, and those injured are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. State government ministers have stated that the tragedy should not be viewed solely as a natural disaster but also as the result of human negligence. According to them, advance warnings about the potential danger had already been issued, yet the necessary preventive measures were not taken in time.
