Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government is set to launch a dedicated police unit aimed at strengthening the safety and security of women and children across the state. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will formally inaugurate the Singappan Special Task Force at an event in Chennai on Tuesday. The newly formed unit is expected to ensure faster response to security-related incidents and improve coordination among law enforcement agencies statewide.
According to the government, the initiative is designed to prevent crimes against women and children while providing timely assistance and support to victims. Senior IPS officer K. Bhavanishwari has been entrusted with leading the force and has been appointed as its first Inspector General (IG). Officials stated that the establishment of this specialized unit represents a significant step toward enhancing public safety and strengthening the state’s overall security framework.
