The Supreme Court has taken up a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the appointment of Deepak Prakash as the Panchayati Raj Minister in the Bihar government. During the hearing, the Court issued notices to Deepak Prakash, the Government of Bihar, and the Election Commission, seeking their responses on the matter.
The petition alleges that Deepak Prakash was reappointed as a minister despite not being a member of either the State Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council. According to the petitioner, such an appointment is inconsistent with constitutional provisions and goes against the spirit of Article 164(4) of the Constitution of India.
The Supreme Court will continue proceedings after reviewing the responses submitted by all concerned parties and will determine the next course of action based on the facts and legal arguments presented before it.
