Re-polling Ordered at 15 Booths in West Bengal

Big News

Voting for the West Bengal Assembly elections has been completed in two phases, but following complaints from certain locations, the Election Commission of India has decided to conduct re-polling at select booths. According to the Commission, fresh voting will be held on May 2, 2026 (Saturday) at 11 polling stations in the Magrahat West Assembly constituency and 4 polling stations in the Diamond Harbour constituency.

Polling at all these booths will take place from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The decision has been taken based on reports submitted by returning officers and election observers. The Commission clarified that the votes cast at these booths on April 29 have been cancelled, and re-polling has been ordered under Section 58(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

Instructions have also been issued to inform voters through public announcements, including drum-beating, and to notify all candidates in writing. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has raised concerns over alleged irregularities in CCTV cameras installed in and around EVM strong rooms. The party has written to the Election Commission seeking appropriate action and warned of protests if the issue is not addressed.

It is worth noting that the counting of votes for West Bengal and four other states will take place on May 4, 2026.
