Political Sparring Intensifies Over UCC in Chhattisgarh as Congress and BJP Clash

National

The political debate over the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has intensified in Raipur, with the Congress and the BJP taking opposing positions. Senior Congress leader Amarjeet Bhagat described the UCC as part of the BJP’s political agenda, arguing that the opinions of all communities, particularly tribal groups, should be sought before any implementation. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao stated that the state government has already formed a committee to gather feedback from various stakeholders and that a final decision will be made after reviewing its recommendations. BJP leaders maintained that the UCC would not affect tribal customs or traditions. The two parties also exchanged criticism over issues related to farmers, the availability of seeds and fertilizers, and the broader political situation in the state.
