Despite receiving good rainfall in July, India has not yet recovered from the significant rainfall deficit recorded in June. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country received around 12% less rainfall than normal between June 1 and August 2, 2026. While central India experienced above-average precipitation, eastern and northeastern regions continued to face considerably lower rainfall. Although July recorded slightly above-normal rainfall, it was insufficient to eliminate June’s shortfall. Experts warn that this uneven distribution of rainfall could affect agricultural activities, reservoir water levels, and overall water availability in the coming months, potentially creating challenges for farmers and water resource management.
