New Delhi: India and China have taken another diplomatic step toward easing tensions over the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. Following an important meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) held in Beijing, India’s Ministry of External Affairs described the discussions as highly constructive and forward-looking. Both sides jointly emphasized that peace and stability along the border are essential for restoring normalcy in overall bilateral relations.
Relations between the two Asian nations had remained severely strained since the violent clash in the Galwan Valley in 2020. After nearly four years of military standoff, both countries are now making efforts to bring their ties back on track. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides reviewed the current situation in the India-China border areas and expressed satisfaction over the progress made in maintaining peace and stability along the frontier. They agreed that these developments have contributed to the gradual normalization of bilateral relations.
The Beijing meeting also included discussions on key issues such as border delimitation, border management, the development of new coordination mechanisms, and cross-border cooperation. India additionally stressed the need to convene the next expert-level meeting on transboundary rivers at the earliest opportunity.
