Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro responded fearlessly to the New York court.

New York: The United States military presented Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro before a New York court on Monday. Maduro addressed the court without fear, stating that he remains the president of an independent country and was forcibly brought there. He asserted that he is a good and innocent person. Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were brought to court wearing blue prison uniforms and handcuffs.

According to media reports, the court proceedings were conducted in English, but Spanish translation services were also arranged for Maduro and his wife. A large number of protesters gathered outside the court, whom the police restrained.

Left-wing leader Nicolás Maduro, along with his wife, son, and three others, has been accused of operating a drug cartel. The United States alleges that Venezuela was running a narcotics network and supplying drugs to the U.S. The action against them was taken under charges of narco-terrorism. If these allegations are proven, Maduro and all six accused could face life imprisonment.
