Quebec City. Diplomatic tensions between Canada and the United States have once again reached a boiling point. The war of words between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and U.S. President Donald Trump has now escalated into a major controversy. Responding firmly to remarks made by Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos—where he questioned Canada’s very existence—Prime Minister Carney issued a strong rebuttal. Countering Trump’s claim that Canada survives solely because of the United States, Carney made it clear that Canada does not depend on anyone’s charity. He emphasized that the nation thrives because of its distinct identity and the pride of being Canadian, not due to the favor or support of another country.
