Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has addressed growing concerns over reduced mileage after the introduction of E20 petrol. He stated that ordinary car owners cannot accurately measure a vehicle’s fuel efficiency simply by observing the dashboard or through daily driving. According to him, precise mileage testing requires specialized equipment available only at authorized dealerships. His remarks come amid complaints from several motorists claiming lower fuel economy after switching to E20 fuel. The government has previously acknowledged that some vehicles may experience a 3–5% drop in fuel efficiency with E20 petrol, but emphasized that overall vehicle performance should not be judged solely by mileage.
