Hundreds of people gathered in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, to protest the government’s decision to remove landless slum residents without providing alternative housing or rehabilitation. Demonstrators demanded the protection of human rights, an end to unlawful arrests, and secure housing for families affected by the eviction drive.

The controversy intensified after police took action against and arrested several youth activists who had visited a temporary camp for flood-affected families to assess the situation. Opposition leaders have also criticized the government’s response, calling for greater accountability and respect for citizens’ rights.

Prime Minister Balen Shah, who once rose to power with strong support from young voters, is now facing growing opposition from many of those same supporters. The developments have created fresh political tensions and sparked a broader debate over housing rights and government policies in Nepal.
