People were facing problems when PM was engaged in fake campaign of victory over Covid
New Delhi (EMS). Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday again slammed the government for declaring victory over Covid early, asking whether the Prime Minister’s new residence and new Parliament House are more important than health facilities? Raising the question under Apne Kaun Responsible Hai campaign, Priyanka Gandhi said that during the second wave of Kovid in India, people had to face a lot of difficulties. Priyanka Gandhi said, the Prime Minister was engaged in a fake campaign of victory over Kovid, when the people of the country faced acute shortage of oxygen, ICU, ventilators and hospital beds. But the government did not pay heed to it.
Priyanka Gandhi said that the Prime Minister had said in September last year that there are 2,27,972 oxygen beds in India. But it declined by 36 percent to 1,57,344. ICU beds declined from 66,638 to 36,008 and ventilator beds from 33,024 to 23,618 during the same period, showing a decline of 28 per cent. Giving the example of Delhi, he said that in July last year, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had inaugurated a temporary medical center of ITBP with 10,000 beds. The center was closed on 7 February this year. He said, during the second wave of Covid, this medical center was available with only 2,000 beds. Criticizing the government, Priyanka Gandhi said that the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health had warned of a second wave and also recommended focus on availability of hospital beds, oxygen. But the government’s focus was elsewhere. He said that at the time the government declared victory over Covid, it was unable to provide proper data on the availability of hospital beds on the Aarogya Setu app. People had to wander from door to door for hospital beds. He also questioned the seriousness of the government with regard to the health sector and said, after coming to power in 2014, the BJP government cut the health budget by 20 percent and also announced the creation of 15 new All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. None of the 15 new AIIMS are operational today.
