Kolkata. The results of the assembly elections in West Bengal may have been out, but the tussle between the ruling TMC and the main opposition BJP does not seem to be ending. The Center and the Mamta government are face-to-face over former Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay who did not attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting. An official familiar with the matter has said that the Center has issued a show cause notice to Alapan Bandopadhyay. The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued notice to recently retired IAS officer Alapan Bandyopadhyay under the Disaster Management Act. An FIR can also be filed against him for not responding to the notice within three days. “Appropriate action is being contemplated by the department against the officer defying the order of DoPT (Department of Personnel and Training),” the official said, requesting anonymity. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has appointed Bandopadhyay as her chief advisor. Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday stoked a fresh controversy over Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s non-attendance in the meeting, saying arrogance has prevailed over the civil service. Terming the Governor’s statement as unfortunate, the ruling Trinamool Congress in the state said that the Chief Minister is engaged in public service round the clock and takes every step in view of her concern for the interests of the state. Dhankhar said the chief minister had spoken to her before a meeting at Kalaikunda in Paschim Medinipur district and indicated that if Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari would be present, she would not attend. Dhankhar tweeted, “The Chief Minister gave a message on May 27 at 11:16 pm,” Can I talk, it is very important. “He tweeted another,” After this he indicated on the phone That if MLA Shubhendu Adhikari will attend the Prime Minister’s review meeting on Cyclone Yas, he and other officials will boycott it. Arrogance prevailed over public service. Bandopadhyay had accompanied the Chief Minister for the meeting. Bandopadhyay, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre, was due to retire on Monday at the age of 60, but the Center has given him three months as the Chief Secretary of West Bengal in view of his work in managing the current COVID-19 pandemic. Work was extended. Following this, the Center had sought Bandopadhyay’s services on May 28 in a contingency decision and asked the state government to immediately relieve the state’s top bureaucrat. Banerjee wrote to the prime minister on Monday on the matter and appointed Bandopadhyay as her chief advisor for three years after allowing him to retire.
