The United States has approved a defense assistance package worth approximately ₹4,000 crore to support the maintenance and operational readiness of India’s Apache attack helicopters and M777 ultra-light howitzer artillery systems. The proposed package is valued at around $482.2 million.

The assistance will include spare parts, repair and maintenance services, technical training, field support, logistics assistance, and other sustainment resources for the M777 howitzers. The package is expected to enhance the Indian Army’s operational effectiveness, particularly in challenging terrains and mountainous regions where these systems play a crucial role.

US authorities have formally advanced the proposal, while leading defense manufacturer BAE Systems is expected to serve as the principal contractor for the project. The initiative reflects ongoing defense cooperation between India and the United States and aims to strengthen the long-term reliability and performance of key military assets.
