A major controversy has surfaced in Chandigarh after a video showing liquor being openly served at a liquor outlet in Sector-9 went viral on social media. Following the circulation of the footage, local authorities and police initiated strict action in the matter. The video reportedly showed people being served flavored vodka along with ice rolls, raising concerns over violations of public liquor distribution regulations.
After conducting a preliminary investigation, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Excise Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Officials stated that the event was allegedly organized without proper permission and involved the public distribution of alcohol in an unauthorized manner.
Police have arrested the liquor contractor, Rajesh Sachdeva (53), a resident of Saketri village in Panchkula. According to authorities, the case was officially registered on May 24, and a detailed investigation is currently underway. Investigators are also examining the involvement of other individuals connected to the event and assessing the extent of regulatory violations committed during the gathering.
