New Delhi. The latest National Sero Survey of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has found evidence of more than 21 percent of the population aged 10 years and above being vulnerable to corona virus infection. The central government stated that large sections of the population are still at risk of infection. The third national sero survey of the ICMR was conducted between December 7 and January 8.
Presenting the findings of the survey, Director General of ICMR Dr Balaram Bhargava said that 28,589 people aged 18 years and above were surveyed during this period, with 21.4 per cent of people prone to corona virus infection in the past. This was confirmed in 25.3 percent of the children between the ages of 10 and 17 years. Bhargava said that 19.1 per cent of the population in rural areas found evidence of presence of SARS-COV-2 while 31.7 per cent in urban slums.
He said that during the survey, 23.4 percent of the elderly above the age of 60 were also diagnosed with infection at some time.
