New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the 125th anniversary celebrations of ‘Enlightened India’, a monthly magazine of the Ramakrishna tradition started by Swami Vivekananda. PM Modi said that Swami Vivekananda named the magazine ‘Enlightened India’ to reveal the spirit of our nation. Swamiji wanted to create an ‘Jagrit Bharat’ separate from a political or regional entity. PM Modi said, “Swami Vivekananda saw India as a cultural consciousness that has lived and breathed for centuries. Referring to the letters of Swami Vivekananda written to the Maharaja of Mysore and Swami Ramakrishnananda, the Prime Minister outlined two clear ideas of Swamiji’s vision of empowering the poor. First, he wanted to bring empowerment to the poor, if the poor themselves could not easily become empowered. Second, he said of India’s poor, “They should be given ideas; They have to open their eyes to know what is going on in the world around them, and then they will save themselves. ” The Prime Minister said that India is moving forward today with this vision. The Prime Minister stressed, “If the poor cannot reach the banks, then the banks should reach the poor.” Jan Dhan Yojana did the same thing. If the poor cannot use insurance, then insurance should reach the poor. Public safety schemes have done the same thing. If the poor cannot access health care, then we must make health care reach the poor. Ayushman Bharat Yojana has done the same thing. Road, education, electricity and internet connectivity are being taken to every corner of the country, especially for the poor. It is igniting aspirations among the poor. These aspirations are accelerating the development of the country. Modi said that India’s active stance during the Kovid-19 epidemic is an example of Swamiji’s attitude of not feeling helpless in the crisis. Similarly, instead of complaining about the climate change problem, India offered a solution in the form of the International Solar Alliance. Modi said, “This is the enlightened India of Swami Vivekananda’s vision. This is an India that is offering solutions to the world’s problems. The Prime Minister expressed happiness that Swami Vivekananda’s big dreams for India and his faith in youth are reflected in the entrepreneurs, sportspersons, technocrats, professionals, scientists, innovators and many others of the country. The Prime Minister asked the youth to move forward following the advice given in Swamiji’s lectures on ‘practical Vedanta’, where he talks of overcoming failures and seeing them as a part of the learning process. The second thing that should happen in people is to be fearless and full of self-confidence. Modi also asked the youth to follow Swami Vivekananda, who achieved immortality by creating valuable works for the world. The PM said that Swami Vivekananda did not see spiritual and economic progress differently. Most importantly, he was against the view where people glorify poverty. Describing Swamiji as a spiritually great, high quality soul, the Prime Minister insisted that he never abandoned the idea of economic progress of the poor. Modi concluded that enlightened India has worked for 125 years while spreading Swami ji’s ideas. According to his vision, the work has been done to educate the youth and awaken the nation. It has contributed significantly towards immortalization of Swami Vivekananda’s ideas.
