New Delhi. The Delhi High Court has termed the decision of the Central Government to increase the recognition of National Sports Federations and give them time from six months to one year to follow the Sports Code. The court said that it is keeping a close watch on the matter to ensure that this extension will not go in vain. The High Court said that the sports federations which do not come under the purview of the National Sports Code and do not comply with it, are neither entitled to any grant from the Central Government nor will they be given the grant. A special bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Najmi Waziri said in its order passed last week, “The instructions to ensure compliance of the National Sports Code were first issued by this court in July 2014 and then in February 2020. In this backdrop, it is not appropriate for the respondent (Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs) to give more time to sports associations.
