Global Oil Prices Surge Amid US-Iran Conflict, Impact Reaches India
New Delhi: For the first time since 2022, fuel prices in India were increased on Friday, with petrol and diesel becoming costlier by ₹3 per litre. Alongside this, the price of CNG was also raised by ₹2 per kilogram. Following the announcement, long queues were witnessed at petrol pumps across several areas as people rushed to refill their vehicles before the revised rates came into effect.
The central government implemented the new fuel prices nationwide, leading to a noticeable rise in public concern. The increase in petrol, diesel, and CNG prices is being linked to the sharp rise in global crude oil rates triggered by escalating tensions between the United States and Iran.
As news of the hike spread, consumers hurried to nearby fuel stations in large numbers to avoid paying the higher prices. In many places, vehicle owners gathered at local outlets even before the updated rates were officially applied, resulting in heavy crowds and extended waiting times at petrol pumps.
