Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday passed a law that would make it over the law. This bill will protect the presidents of the country from life-long criminal cases even after they step down. Under the new law, the former presidents of Russia, as well as their family members, will not be subject to police investigation and interrogation. Even after leaving the presidency through the law, the person will remain a life-long senator and get immunity from all criminal cases.
The new law allows exemptions, searches, or arrests of former presidents and their families from police or investigators. This law is part of the constitutional amendment that took place after the referendum in the summer of this year, under which Putin can continue as president until 2036. Prior to this law, former presidents were exempted from criminal cases that were lodged during their tenure. Let us know that Putin Putin has been in power in Russia since 2000.
However, this immunity granted to a former president may be snuffed out on charges of treason or other serious offenses under the new law and confirmed by the Supreme and Constitutional courts, but the process has been complicated.
The bill that Putin signed on Tuesday gives former presidents lifetime membership in the Federation Council or Senate, a post that would exempt them from lawsuits even after their removal from the presidency.
Pending the bill last month, it was speculated that Putin may resign due to ill health. However, these speculations were described by the Kremlin as baseless.
