Nainital: A young woman visiting Nainital narrowly escaped a rape attempt after the taxi driver allegedly abducted her and tried to sexually assault her. Witnessing the driver’s violent behavior and intoxicated state, the woman displayed remarkable courage. She managed to break free from his grip and ran barefoot toward the dense forest to save herself.

Fear of wild animals in the forest was overshadowed by the terror of the attacker she was trying to escape. To remain safe, the woman spent the entire night hiding in fear beneath a culvert (a small bridge structure).

According to the survivor, she is a nature enthusiast who often enjoys visiting quiet and secluded places in search of peace. With the same intention, she had come to Nainital, unaware that the driver she trusted had such horrifying intentions.

The woman stated that on Thursday she had hired a taxi driven by Deepak Bora, a resident of Haldwani. About 12 kilometers before reaching Nainital, the accused driver allegedly diverted the car toward the Patwadangar route. When the woman objected, the driver accelerated the vehicle and drove nearly two kilometers further inside before attempting to force himself on her. The accused also snatched the woman’s phone to prevent her from contacting anyone for help.
