New Delhi: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued an unconditional apology following sharp criticism from the Supreme Court regarding a controversial chapter on corruption in the judiciary included in a Class VIII textbook. The Council’s response came after the apex court described the content as deeply disturbing and an attack on the basic structure of the Constitution.

In light of the Court’s strong observations, NCERT acknowledged that inappropriate material and an error in judgment were inadvertently included in the concerned chapter. The Council clarified that the content would be comprehensively revised in consultation with appropriate authorities to ensure accuracy and constitutional propriety.

Amid the controversy, NCERT has removed the book from its official website and has suspended its distribution with immediate effect.
