Kolkata: Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended a religious program at the temple of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Mayapur, located in the Nadia district of West Bengal. He participated in the event not in his official capacity, but as a devotee of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 152nd sacred appearance anniversary of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati, the 19th-century Vaishnava revivalist and founder of the Gaudiya Math, Shah delivered a brief speech. He conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the assembled devotees and shared a message of devotion associated with the occasion.
He stated, “I spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi this morning. I informed him that I would be attending the 152nd birth anniversary celebration of Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati in Mayapur today. He extended his heartfelt greetings to all of you and conveyed the message of ‘Hare Krishna’ to everyone present. A short while ago, I was introduced here as the Home Minister of India. However, I have not come here in that capacity. Today, I have come as a humble devotee of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.”
