New Delhi: A recent statement by Nepal’s Prime Minister, Balen Shah, has sparked a new political debate in the country. During his first address in Parliament, he made remarks regarding the India–Nepal border dispute that quickly drew attention from political parties and the public alike.
For years, Nepal has maintained that areas such as Lipulekh, Limpiyadhura, and Kalapani are part of its territory and has accused India of encroachment in these regions. However, Prime Minister Balen Shah stated that border-related issues should not be viewed from a one-sided perspective and that the claims and concerns of both countries deserve careful and balanced consideration.
His comments have triggered a wave of political reactions across Nepal. While several leaders described the matter as highly sensitive, others viewed his remarks as an attempt to examine the long-standing dispute from a broader and more constructive perspective. Border issues have remained a significant aspect of bilateral relations between India and Nepal for many years, often influencing diplomatic discussions between the two neighboring nations.
