Srinagar: A powerful explosion occurred last night at the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, the capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident resulted in the deaths of nine police personnel and left 32 others injured.
Initially, there was speculation that this might have been a major terror attack. However, preliminary investigations revealed that the blast took place during the sampling of explosives.
Later, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat briefed the media, clarifying the situation. He stated that this was not an act of terrorism but an accident and that a detailed investigation is still underway.
Debris removal operations are in progress, and officials fear that more individuals may be trapped beneath the rubble. The death toll may therefore rise further.
