New Delhi: India has indicated that it will wait for the outcome of the Bangladesh elections before determining its subsequent steps. Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday evening, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India supports the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections in Bangladesh. He emphasized that it is important to wait for the final results in order to understand the nature of the public mandate. “Once the mandate is clear, we will assess the situation and related issues accordingly,” he added.
Jaiswal also clarified that although India had received an invitation, it did not send any election observers to Bangladesh. Responding to another question, he stated that while the invitation to deploy observers had been extended, India chose not to send any representatives to monitor the electoral process in Bangladesh.
