Karachi. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may reconsider its decision to boycott the T20 World Cup match against India scheduled for February 15. The likelihood of resolving the dispute increased after a meeting held in Lahore on Sunday between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam, and International Cricket Council (ICC) Vice President Imran Khawaja. A related meeting was also convened at Gaddafi Stadium.
Khawaja, who is of Pakistani origin, represents Singapore at the ICC and is believed to have considerable influence within the PCB. As an Associate Member Director on the ICC Board, he also holds voting rights. The ICC Board has appointed Khawaja as a mediator in the matter. According to the Board, Khawaja has been in regular contact with Naqvi for some time and is also expected to engage in discussions with BCB President Aminul Islam.
The PCB had decided to withdraw from the match against India in support of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Earlier, after the BCB refused to send its team to India, the ICC excluded Bangladesh from the World Cup. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently stated that Pakistan’s decision not to play against India was taken in solidarity with Bangladesh.
