IPOH (Malaysia): The Indian men’s hockey team succumbed to a narrow 2-3 defeat against Belgium on Tuesday in a rescheduled, rain-affected match at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2025. Despite a spirited performance, India could not overcome the Belgian challenge, with goals from Abhishek (33′) and Shilanand Lakra (57′) proving insufficient. For Belgium, Roman Duvecot (17′, 57′) and Nicolas De Kerpel (45′) were the goal-scorers.

The contest began with a strong defensive display from India, which effectively neutralized early Belgian pressure. Goalkeeper Pawan was instrumental in the first quarter, making two crucial saves to keep the scores level. Belgium secured two penalty corners in the opening 10 minutes, but the Indian defense held firm, ensuring the first quarter concluded without a goal.

Entering the second quarter, India adopted a more aggressive approach. However, Belgium seized the lead in the 17th minute through a field goal from Roman Duvecot. India responded swiftly, and Dilpreet Singh found the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed due to dangerous play.
