Amid the Greenland Dispute, Trump Says: Without Me, NATO Would Be in the Trash

International

Washington: The ongoing standoff between U.S. President Donald Trump and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has now reached a new level. Regarding his ambitious plan to bring Greenland under American control, Trump has not only dismissed the objections raised by European countries but has also startled many by claiming that NATO’s very existence today is owed solely to him. Otherwise, he said, NATO would be “lying in a trash bin.”

Trump’s remarks come at a time when European leaders gathered in Davos are increasingly uniting in opposition to what they view as his expansionist stance.
