NEW DELHI/JOHANNESBURG: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the Johannesburg Expo Centre on Saturday to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit, where he was warmly received by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. The summit, held under the theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability,” marks a significant moment as it is the first time the G20 is being hosted on the African continent.
Prime Minister Modi’s three-day visit will see him actively engage in all three high-level sessions, where he is expected to present India’s perspective on crucial global issues. His agenda is centered on amplifying the voice of the Global South and addressing pressing challenges such as inclusive and sustainable economic growth, building a resilient world, and ensuring a fair and just future for all.
This year’s G20 gathering is particularly noteworthy as it continues the focus on issues pertinent to the Global South, a priority carried forward from previous presidencies including India’s.
Prime Minister Modi will advocate for robust climate-resilient systems, the ethical governance of artificial intelligence, and reforms in global governance. On the sidelines of the summit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with other world leaders.
His participation underscores India’s commitment to the G20’s role as the premier forum for international economic cooperation and its vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future”.
