PM Modi to Embark on Historic Visit to South Africa for G20 Summit

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, for a three-day visit from November 21st to 23rd to attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit. The visit comes at the invitation of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and marks a significant milestone as the first G20 Summit to be hosted on the African continent.

The summit’s theme is ‘Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability,’ and it will build upon the foundations laid during previous summits in New Delhi and Rio de Janeiro.

In a statement ahead of his departure, the Prime Minister noted the special nature of this summit, particularly following the African Union’s induction as a permanent member during India’s G20 presidency in 2023.During the summit, global leaders will convene to discuss a range of pressing international issues.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to articulate India’s perspective, guided by the principle of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ – ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.In addition to the main summit, the Prime Minister will participate in the 6th IBSA (India-Brazil-South Africa) Dialogue Forum, a trilateral group focused on enhancing South-South cooperation. He is also scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings with other world leaders attending the event.

The visit will also include an interaction with the Indian diaspora in South Africa, which is one of the largest in the world . This will be the Prime Minister’s fourth official visit to the country, highlighting the strong and enduring partnership between India and South Africa .
