Vitamin D Deficiency Can Cause Rapid Weight Gain: Experts

Lifestyle

New Delhi. Many people often complain that despite dieting and exercising, they are unable to lose weight. According to experts, this may not only be due to poor diet or lifestyle habits, but also because of a deficiency of vitamin D in the body.

Vitamin D, often called the “sunshine vitamin,” is produced in the body through exposure to sunlight. This essential nutrient not only strengthens bones but also plays a vital role in maintaining energy levels, hormonal balance, and metabolism.

When the body does not receive an adequate amount of vitamin D, muscle weakness, fatigue, and rapid weight gain may occur. From a scientific perspective, vitamin D helps regulate the serotonin hormone, which influences mood, sleep, and appetite.

A decline in serotonin levels can lead to irritability, disturbed sleep, and a tendency to overeat, all of which can contribute to unwanted weight gain.
