PM Modi Welcomes Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi, Pledges to Deepen India–Japan Partnership

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended a warm welcome to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, describing her as “like a younger sister.” He noted that this was her first visit to India and said it was a privilege to welcome Japan’s first woman Prime Minister.

During a joint press briefing, the two leaders agreed to expand cooperation in key economic and technological sectors. They emphasized strengthening collaboration in semiconductors, quantum technology, advanced materials, and resilient supply chains. The leaders also announced plans to accelerate the India–Japan Biogas Initiative, under which 1,000 biogas and organic fertilizer plants will be established across the country, reinforcing both nations’ commitment to sustainable development and long-term strategic cooperation.
