New Delhi (EMS). After eight months due to the Covid epidemic, the wheels of the metro stopped again. The Delhi government decided to ban the Metro operations for the third time, extending the lockdown for seven days (from 10 to 17 May). In the lockdown, only people connected with essential services were allowed to walk. Due to the ban on metro operations, it is going to increase the difficulty of people traveling daily. This strict decision has been taken by the government at a time when the rate of infection has been decreasing since the lockdown in Delhi. On the decision to shut down the metro, a senior Delhi government official said that only people connected with essential services were allowed to run in the metro. But even after walking the metro, many people have been seen traveling inexplicably. Not only this, some stations were also getting crowded, due to which this decision has been taken. Let us tell you that the metro has been operating in Delhi since December 2002. 18 years after the start of operations, in March 2020, the Metro wheel was completely stopped for the first time in the lockdown due to Corona. After that, the metro was started operating again from 7 September. Service was started on all networks by 12 September. Now again after 245 days, the metro operations have been completely stopped again. Even after shutting down the metro operations, other modes of public transport i.e. buses, autos, taxis, rural services in Delhi will continue to run with limited capacity. The government says that people connected with essential services can travel by buses. Senior officials say buses are running empty in the lockdown. So there is no risk of congestion. Delhi Metro has also announced closure of operations from 10 to 17 May at five in the morning. The metro was running at less than 25 per cent of its capacity in the lockdown. On normal days, where the metro ran daily till 5500-6000. She was now making 1500-1600 rounds. The number of passengers was also reduced from two to three lakhs daily. In the lockdown, only people connected with essential services, e-pass holders were allowed to travel. So Metro was running at 15-15 minute intervals in peak hours and 30-30 minutes in non peak hours.
