New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team captain Anil Kumble has heaped praise on rising batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, saying that the young player has the potential to surpass Chris Gayle’s record for the highest number of sixes in a single Indian Premier League season.
Vaibhav has already smashed 53 sixes this season and now needs only seven more to break Gayle’s long-standing record of 59 sixes, set in 2012. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that Vaibhav is only 15 years old.
His fearless and aggressive batting style has impressed cricket fans and experts alike. In a recent match against Lucknow Super Giants, the young batter played a stunning innings of 93 runs off just 38 balls, including 10 massive sixes.
Kumble expressed his admiration by saying that scoring 53 sixes at the age of 15 is extraordinary. He added that Vaibhav could very well surpass Gayle’s record in the ongoing season itself. Praising his technique, Kumble noted that very few batters can clear the covers with such ease, but Vaibhav has repeatedly demonstrated that ability with confidence and consistency.
