Assam Crime Branch Summons Congress Leader for Questioning
Dispur: The political controversy surrounding the alleged remarks made against the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma continues to intensify. Following action against Congress leader Pawan Khera, the Assam Police has now tightened its focus on another senior Congress leader, Randeep Singh Surjewala. The Crime Branch of the Assam Police, which is investigating the matter, has issued a summons to Surjewala.
According to sources, the Crime Branch has directed Surjewala to appear before investigating officers in Guwahati on May 23 for questioning. Reports suggest that the summons was issued based on information that emerged during several hours of interrogation of Pawan Khera earlier this month.
The development has further escalated political tensions between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and the Indian National Congress in Assam.
