Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Challenges Tarique Rahman

New Delhi: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has stated that her absence should not be interpreted as silence, asserting that she will return to her country soon. In an interview, she said that she continues to fight for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh while currently staying in India.

According to media reports, Hasina recalled that May 17, 1981, was one of the most emotional days of her life, as she returned to Bangladesh from India after six years of exile. She said that even during that period, conspiracies were plotted against her, legal cases were filed, and her life remained under threat. However, the love and support of the people gave her the strength to return.

She further explained that her next return would not depend on a fixed date, but rather on the restoration of a democratic environment in Bangladesh, including freedom of expression, political rights, and the rule of law. Hasina also claimed that she is fighting diplomatic and legal battles at the international level. She added that she has survived 19 assassination attempts and said that as long as Allah keeps her alive, she will soon return to the soil of Bangladesh.
