The Central Public Works Department had asked Tata Projects Ltd to start construction of the new Parliament building from 15 January. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the Central Government’s ambitious project Central Vista Project on December 10, about a month ago. The new parliament building will be triangular in shape and its construction will be completed in 2022 by the 75th anniversary of independence. The government plans to hold the Monsoon Session of Parliament in the new building in 2022.
Sources say that Tata Projects had already started transporting its equipment to the construction site so that this ambitious Central Government project could be started soon. On Monday, the 14-member Heritage Conservation Committee gave its approval for the construction of the new parliament building. This Rs 971 crore project is to be completed on the occasion of 75th Independence Day of the country.
