Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has said that “completely independent” persons should have been appointed in the committee set up by the Supreme Court to end the impasse on agricultural laws. Former Union Minister Pawar told reporters that agitating farmers have no faith in the committee as it has been said that its members have previously supported the new agricultural laws of the Center.
He said, “That is why farmers do not think that a solution will be found by discussing with the committee. I agree with them. It would have been better if independent (de facto independent) persons were appointed. ” Pawar had on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the implementation of agricultural laws and constitute a committee.
The committee comprises Bhupinder Singh Mann, national chairman of the All India Farmers Coordination Committee, Dr. Pramod Kumar Joshi, director of the International Food Policy and Research Institute of South Asia, agricultural economist and former chairman of the Agricultural Product Cost and Price Commission Ashok Gulati and Shetkari. The president of the organization, Anil Ghanvat, has been included. However, on Thursday, Mann said that he was dissociating himself from the committee in view of the feelings and concerns of the farmer unions. A four-member committee was constituted by the Supreme Court to end the deadlock between farmers protesting on the borders of Delhi in protest against the new agricultural laws.
