Mumbai: The Impact Player rule in the IPL has been surrounded by controversy since its inception. Introduced in 2023, several prominent players have opposed it, arguing that it negatively affects all-rounders. In their view, the rule should be abolished.
Now, Mumbai Indians’ batting coach Kieron Pollard has also expressed concern, stating that the Impact Player option restricts the role of all-rounders. He warned that it could have an adverse impact on international cricket as well. Pollard has been associated with the IPL for a long time, being part of the league in various roles since 2010, including as an all-rounder for his team.
