Patna: Support within the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) for appointing Nishant Kumar as the next Chief Minister of Bihar has been gaining momentum.
Recently, the decision of Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to move to the Rajya Sabha surprised many people in the state. When Nitish Kumar expressed his intention to take a seat in the Rajya Sabha, JD(U) workers strongly objected. Party supporters reportedly vandalized the party office and gathered on the streets in support of the Chief Minister.
During a meeting with senior party leaders, Nitish Kumar attempted to calm the anger among party workers. He assured them that although he might move to Delhi, he would continue contributing to Bihar’s development and that there was no need for concern. However, many party workers remained dissatisfied.
For quite some time, there had also been a demand from within the party to bring Nishant Kumar into active politics. Eventually, Nishant Kumar formally joined the JD(U) in the presence of senior party leaders. After joining the party, he was repeatedly asked by the media about the possibility of becoming Chief Minister, but he consistently avoided giving a direct response.
On Thursday, Nishant Kumar visited his ancestral village Kalyan Bigha, where he again sidestepped questions regarding his potential elevation to the post of Chief Minister. Meanwhile, JD(U) legislators Ruhail Ranjan and Chetan Anand claimed that the aspirations of the local people would be fulfilled, asserting that Nishant Kumar would be made the next Chief Minister of Bihar.
