Washington: The recent decision by the United States Supreme Court to invalidate certain tariffs, followed by former President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs, will not affect the proposed trade agreement between India and the United States. Trump has stated that the ruling will have no bearing on the forthcoming agreement with India and that discussions will proceed as planned.
Notably, within three hours of the Supreme Court’s decision to revoke the tariffs on Friday, Trump announced the imposition of a 10 percent global tariff on countries worldwide. However, he did not clarify whether this additional tariff would be incorporated into the ongoing deal with India or adjusted within the previously discussed 18 percent tariff framework.
