Mumbai: In the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League, the Rajasthan Royals will take the field under the leadership of young all-rounder Riyan Parag. Parag had already captained the side in several matches during the previous season, making him a strong contender for the role this year.
Meanwhile, last season’s captain Sanju Samson will represent the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming edition. Following Samson’s departure, the team management placed its trust in Parag, keeping long-term plans in mind.
Samson had been associated with the Rajasthan Royals for nearly a decade. Rising from a young wicketkeeper-batsman to the captaincy, he played a significant role in the franchise’s journey. However, his performance last season did not meet expectations, and he also struggled with fitness concerns. Out of 14 matches, the team managed to secure only four victories and finished at the bottom of the points table.
Differences reportedly emerged between Samson and the team management after the season, signaling that he was ready for a change. Subsequently, he joined CSK, where he is now set to share the dressing room with veteran cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
