Islamabad: Financially strained and burdened with heavy debt, Pakistan is facing significant economic challenges. Amid this situation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has presented an ambitious vision centered on artificial intelligence (AI) to the nation’s citizens. He announced that Pakistan aims to invest USD 1 billion in artificial intelligence by 2030 in order to establish a comprehensive AI ecosystem.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Indus AI Week 2026, scheduled from February 9 to 15, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is prepared to align itself with global advancements in AI. He emphasized that the government will introduce programs designed to transform young people from IT technicians into AI specialists. According to him, the proposed USD 1 billion investment by 2030 will play a crucial role in building a strong and sustainable AI ecosystem within the country.
Prime Minister Sharif further announced that an AI curriculum will be introduced not only in all federally administered schools but also in schools located in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The initiative is also planned to be implemented in remote regions of Balochistan, ensuring broader access to emerging technological education across the country.
